Stability to plate buckling in new regulations

Drago Horvatić, Darija Živni

Abstract

Authors discuss the genesis of the quite belated Eurocode 3 - Part 1.5 in which problems of plates stressed in ther own plane are regulated. A highly significant issue treated in the document is the problem of plate stability. After analysis of solutions presented by various authors at the presntandard stage (ENV), a somewhat corrected Winter's formula was adobped for the final standard (EN). This standard in compared to the current Croatian standard HRN U.E7.121 which has been in use since 1986. The application of the new standard is shown on a simple numerical example.
