Methods for testing surface durability of concrete

Hrvoje Anton, Dubravka Bjegović, Ernest Ević

Abstract

Some test methods enabling determination of concrete surface durability are described. The concrete surface testing is based on one out of three possible mechanisms for the entry of external causes of damage into the concrete. These three mechanisms are: absorption, permeability and diffusion. Penetration testing methods, based on absorption, water permeability and air permeability, are presented. The testing principles, with the description of required equipment, and with presentation of advantages and shortcoming of individual methods, are indicated.
