Earthquake resistant reinforced concrete frame structures

Ivan Tomičić

Abstract

Two methods for the design of frames made of prefabricated elements are presented. The first one, the force reduction method, has already been accepted in national and European standards and is often applied in practice. The more recent method, i.e. the interstory displacement selection method, is the result of latest research efforts, and its objective is to ensure better performance and higher competitiveness of reinforced-concrete frames made of prefabricated elements with ductile joints. The requirements and recommendations given in European prestandards ENV 1992 and ENV 1998 are presented.
