Determination of parameters for fracture mechanics of concrete

Joško Krolo

Abstract

The procedure for the determination of parameters for the fracture mechanics of concrete, as based on the effect of sample size (size effect model), is described. Results obtained by loading to failure three sizes of geometrically similar samples made of concrete type MB30, MB60 and MB80, are analyzed. The Bažant's size effect law is confirmed, and fracture mechanics parameters (Gf - fracture energy and cf - effective crack length) are determined. The very high correspondence of these parameters to test results has been observed.
