Cavitation in centrifugal pumps

Živko Vuković, Ivan Halkijević

Abstract

An overview of recent scientific studies of the phenomenon of cavitation in dry-type centrifugal pumps is given. The concept of available and required net positive suction height was adopted as basic parameter for description of the occurrence and development of cavitation. Perceptions that ensure cavitation-free operation of pumps are presented. Such cavitation-free operation would eliminate major problems encountered in practice during regular operation and maintenance. The calculation of the net positive suction height is presented on an example.
