Assessment of existing structures

Jure Radić, Ana Mandić Ivanković, Ivona Augustinović

Abstract

Procedures used in the assessment of existing structures are presented systematically, through appropriate data collection methods, analytical methods, and validation procedures. Assessment procedures are theoretically divided into three categories and five levels of assessment and, in practice, these procedures are adapted to specific assessment needs and to a particular type of structure. Similar methodology was used to assess the Šibenik Bridge, which is highly exposed to wind action. This particular case is a good example of multiple-step structural assessment characterized by higher complexity, and hence by greater accuracy.
