Relevant bending moments for piers in laterally braced frames

Riko Rosman

Abstract

Some derivation models for defining extreme bending moments of piers in laterally braced frames are presented. The practical use of these models is illustrated with appropriate examples. A detailed table with numerical values of relevant bending moment ratios according to the second order theory, and the extreme bending moment determined in an usual way, i.e. according to the first order theory, is given for the range of load parameter values normally encountered in practice. The system's response to imperfections during realization is analyzed in the concluding section of the paper.
