Measurement uncertainty associated with the thermal conductivity of building materials

Mladen Bezjak

Abstract

The device for measuring thermal conductivity of building materials, located in the Building Physics Laboratory of the Civil Engineering Institute of Croatia in Zagreb, is described. All parameters influencing measurement uncertainty (sample thickness, reference temperature, fall in sample temperature, and density of heat flow) are listed, and the mathematical model enabling calculation of such parameters is derived. In addition, an appropriate expression is derived for calculating an extended measurement uncertainty for thermal conductivity of building materials.
